Breakwhore and General Disarray came together two years ago to establish Blunderphonics, a night at the legendary Black Swan consisting of some of Bristol and Manchester’s newest and heaviest music. Inspired by their passion for jungle, breakcore, heavy drum and bass, gabba, metal and much in between, their music is a mashup of these often rather punishing genres. Much of the philosophy behind the idea was to bring some new faces and tunes to the scene so expect the show to include a whole load of tracks from the extended Blunderphonics family.

Dicey, dubbed as the first Lady of Breaks in Plymouth, has been actively involved in the Westcountry music scene for many years. From co-running a successful weekly electro breaks night under the name of UFO she became resident of Plymouth’s longest running and best loved breaks night Magik Bullet. From dark tech funk to energetic and rhythmic breaks, she loves playing music with energy and depth. A recent move to Bristol has brought new opportunities to explore a vibrant scene. As a musician she has been focusing attention on singing and playing keyboards in her new band. But the decks are never far away and as part of the band package she is building a reputation for playing records with a heavy dose of funk to get people moving. She hopes to continue developing her obsessive love of music in her new home city.
P.O.D.G.E. was discovered in The Forest of Dean during the treacherous winter of 1982. Little is known about his upbringing but it led him to believe that he was Nick Berry. Unable to cope with the imposter on TV he left the Forest for the bright lights of Walford. Unfortunately due to a terrible sense of direction and having one leg shorter than the other, he ended up in Plymouth where he stayed for 7 years living under the stairs in the Dance Academy from where he would only venture out on the last Friday of the month. Tired of the shabby Devon streets and seedy 4×4 beats he briefly fled the country and appeared in the American cartoon, King of the Hill playing the charismatic young Bobby. After his brief flit with acting he was deported back to his homeland and settled in Bristol where he can be found in his trusty rocking chair playing High Contrast’s greatest hits on a banjo. Despite some serious mental issues, a lazy eye and restricted growth, P.O.D.G.E. is a fine fellow with an intriguing taste in rhythm and can be found rocking all good dance floors near you.

Drum & bass / breakbeat DJ / Producer Hattie was originally from Southampton but is now based in Bristol. He has not been making music long, about 8 or so months on his own, but has been playing around with other peeps in their studios for years. He can’t remember exactly when he started mixing, about 6 or so years ago. He like a drink and a smoke and will come play house parties for free, just trying to have fun with music so kick back, roll up, chillax and enjoy the tunes.
Defazed has been creating electronic music since around 2001. He has played in excess of 50 live shows, many of which were versus sets with the mighty Headphobe. Defazed and Headphobe were crowned Laptop Battle UK team champions in March 2007 and more recently Defazed was crowned Laptop Battle UK solo champion in December 2007. After a stint of 12″ and MP3 releases on labels including 1 Man Army Records and Dissident’s Jungletek Movement, he has taken his work back underground to study new forms and develop his technique.

Back in 1999 when Gyu first heard Hip Hop Phenomenon he knew his life had changed forever. This was his first experience of nu skool breaks and it was the catalyst that inspired him to begin to mix breaks. A year or two later he moved to Bristol, and was soon a key player in the free party scene, being an original member of the Dissident crew. He found himself a resident at the infamous Bashout nights in Bristol as a part of the Dissident crew, which was followed up by his debut 12″ release, Tryst on Jungletek Movement in 2005. It was shortly after this that he began to struggle to pick out records which excited him from the breaks genre. He discovered instead the early sounds of artists such as Vex’d, Search & Destroy, Toasty and Reso. The production values of such artists resonated with his own musical ideas, resulting in his own fresh take on breaks. He began to collaborate with Dissident member Globe Rotter as Mad-Tek and released the False Flag E.P. on Digital Distortions. This was followed by his solo effort Ill Shaped on the same label. Gyu’s music continues to demonstrate his clinical production providing dramatic impact alongside melodic depth, and receives a wide range of support from artists such as Warlock, Noyeahno and Blackmass Plastics. Recent releases include remixes for Subgrade Records and Noodles Recordings, as well as his first release on Urban Scrumping Records, with the Rorschach E.P. out now.
