For most of the month it’s just me serving up my usual selection of skanking breaks, dutty basslines, wobbly dubstep, rude bwoy jungle and braptastic electronica. Tune in every Sunday 6pm-8pm for your dosage of weekend wind down noise.

Special guests this month include Freefall Collective and someone else to be announced as soon as I get confirmation. Full details below.

Freefall Collective, DJ Set ft MC Manic (Resin Records, Glade Festival, Breakspoll 2009)

Freefall Collective are a production outfit from Bournemouth with an awesome 5 piece live band that pushes their unique blend of club busting beats, dub sensibilities and MC action beyond the realms of any DJ Set. Fronted by MC Manic and Kristy on vocals the Freefall Collective have delivered crowd pleasing sets across Europe throughout 2008 – with some impressive performances at Glastonbury 2008 and The Summer Festival at Olympic Stadium in Seville! Off stage the band released their tunes on Resin Records since 2007 with their debut single ‘Kermits Crafty Coconut’ being described as “one of the most cutting edge tracks on the breakbeat scene” MOFO. Their 2nd single ‘100% People’ got rave reviews in DJ Mag, IDJ, & M8 and was even used on the Rugby World Cup semi finals on ITV. ‘Overdrive / System Check’ was released to great DJ support in November 2008, a heavy Dub roller that received 4/5 in DJ Mag and sets the scene for a long awaited album from this talented crew in 2009.

Ribs & IG88 (Downbeat Productions, Guerilla Tactics)

Starting out under the name Hook and Sling, Ribs & IG88 soon found sharing their name with another producer (Hook ‘n’ Sling, who appeared on the scene at the same time) irksome, so to avoid confusion went back to their individual tags. IG88 started out as part of the Time Enough for Love crew putting on dirty London warehouse parties and djing. Ribs (DJ Geta) came from a hip hop background and is also part of UK hip hop outfit Killa Instinct. Now they make breakbeat, d&b and dub, drawing on influences such as hardcore, garage, jungle, hip hop and most things dub. With Releases out on Guerrilla Tactics and Downbeat Productions, their 2007 release The Bass Riot EP received support from all over, not least the Plump DJs. Currently doing the rounds is Murder Dub and Bassplant, again getting great support from the scene. The two have also been winging it about in Spain playing at bonkers raves.
