This show is the day after Malfunction vs Frustrated Disco Machine vs Void vs Brap at Lab (Bristol) so I will no doubt be feeling a bit worse for wear.  Expect more mellow beats than usual as I soothe my broken brain and body.

DJ Chamber (Bass Kitchen)

He’s a tune digging, beat juggling, groove scratching, vinyl faking, money making dirty hibbadyhop bad boy. DJ first and producer second, Chamber knows what it takes to rock a party. He deals in only the finest breaks, dnb, hip-hop and anything else he can throw into the mix to get the body moving and soul shaking.  Chamber’s mad skills behind the decks have seen him play at venues up and down the country alongside artists such as Atomic Hooligan, The Freestylers, Lee Coombs, A Skillz, Baobinga, Rennie Pilgrim, General Midi, Adam F and The Breakfastaz to name but a few.

Dicey and P.O.D.G.E.

Dicey, dubbed as the first Lady of Breaks in Plymouth, has been actively involved in the Westcountry music scene for many years.  From co-running a successful weekly electro breaks night under the name of UFO she became resident of Plymouth’s longest running and best loved breaks night Magik Bullet.  From dark tech funk to energetic and rhythmic breaks, she loves playing music with energy and depth.   A recent move to Bristol has brought new opportunities to explore a vibrant scene.  As a musician she has been focusing attention on singing and playing keyboards in her new band.  But the decks are never far away and as part of the band package she is building a reputation for playing records with a heavy dose of funk to get people moving.  She hopes to continue developing her obsessive love of music in her new home city.

P.O.D.G.E. was discovered in The Forest of Dean during the treacherous winter of 1982.  Little is known about his upbringing but it led him to believe that he was Nick Berry.  Unable to cope with the imposter on TV he left the Forest for the bright lights of Walford. Unfortunately due to a terrible sense of direction and having one leg shorter than the other, he ended up in Plymouth where he stayed for 7 years living under the stairs in the Dance Academy from where he would only venture out on the last Friday of the month.  Tired of the shabby Devon streets and seedy 4×4 beats he briefly fled the country and appeared in the American cartoon King of the Hill playing the charismatic young Bobby.  After his brief flit with acting he was deported back to his homeland and settled in Bristol where he can be found in his trusty rocking chair playing High Contrast’s greatest hits on a banjo.  Despite some serious mental issues, a lazy eye and restricted growth, P.O.D.G.E. is a fine fellow with an intriguing taste in rhythm and can be found rocking all good dance floors near you.

Mr Minimax

Mr Minimax aka Rob Dunstone is a young man from Oxford but this isn’t another boat race story. His upbringing gave him solid music foundations with the likes of Ella Fitzgerald and Stravinsky as listening material. From a very early age an infatuation with music was apparent, he jumped at any opportunity to make noise, be it using an instrument, his mouth, or whatever item was closest to hand. While his tastes were broad and eclectic, his knowledge of music creation was limited to first hand experiences. Thanks to a love of The Prodigy it dawned on Rob that music could be created without a band, or even proper instruments. A light switched on in his head and hasn’t dimmed since. Rob now holds a residency at Oxford club night Fresh Out The Box and has several releases under his belt that display style of downtempo and experimental electronics, through techno to breakcore carnage.
